چکیده
As agricultural activity intensifies across Europe there is growing concern over water quality. Agricultural run-off a leading cause of freshwater degradation. Simultaneously continually increasing drive to promote renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Willow coppice planted as riparian buffer has been suggested solution help mitigate these problems. However, limited research into the use such system several key knowledge gaps remain, as, ratio not known, fully harvested site yet be analysed in literature. The aim this fill inform agri-environmental policy. To do life cycle assessment was carried out on an established willow system, considering global warming potential, eutrophication acidification potential cumulative demand impact categories, alongside calculation ratio. our it first for which full out. combusted fuel district heating system. Key results showed emissions 4.66 kg CO2eq GJheatout−1 0.01 SO2eq GJheatout−1, both are significant reductions compared oil (95% categories). also resulted permanent nutrient removal 55.36 PO43−eq ha−1 yr−1 had 17.4, could rise 64 depending harvest method.

Evaluating ecosystem processes in willow short rotation coppice bioenergy plantations
Despite a growing body of research linking bioenergy cultivation to changing patterns of biodiversity, there has been remarkably little interest in how bioenergy plantations affect key ecosystem processes underpinning important ecosystem services. In this study, we compare how the processes of predation by ground arthropods and litter decomposition varied between Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) wi...

Nordh, N.-E. 2005 Long term changes in stand structure and biomass production in short rotation willow coppice. Doctor’s dissertation. ISSN 1652-6880, ISBN 91-576-6919-8. Short rotation willow coppice (SRWC) is a recently commercialised agricultural crop in Sweden, producing biomass for energy. The expected lifespan of a SRWC plantation is more than 20 years, or at least 5 harvests. Consequentl...
متن کاملPotential benefits of commercial willow Short Rotation Coppice (SRC) for farm-scale plant and invertebrate communities in the agri-environment
The cultivation of bioenergy crops (BECs) represents a significant land-use change in agrienvironments, but their deployment has raised important issues globally regarding possible impacts on biodiversity. Few studies however, have systematically examined the effect of commercial scale bioenergy plantations on biodiversity in agri-ecosystems. In this study we investigate how the abundance and d...
متن کاملOptimising the Environmental Sustainability of Short Rotation Coppice Biomass Production for Energy
Background and Purpose: Solid biomass from short rotation coppice (SRC) has the potential to significantly contribute to European renewable energy targets and the expected demand for wood for energy, driven mainly by market forces and supported by the targets of national and European energy policies. It is expected that in the near future the number of hectares under SRC will increase in Europe...
متن کاملInvestigation on life cycle assessment of lead and zinc production
Lead and zinc production is one of the main predisposing factors of excessive greenhouse gases emissions, air pollution and water consumption. In this paper, the environmental problems of lead and zinc production in Calcimin plant are expressed and life cycle assessment of this plant is assessed. The data regarding the amount of induced global warming and pollution, acidification, and depletion...
